22/4/13 painting in progress

The concept of the painting

The painting consists of blowing feathers from a bubble blower, the children's bubble blower I see as another simple way of showing vulnerability through the objects, she holds it as an adult but with innocence of a child's mind which can be so vulnerable in the hands of others.

The feathers being blown out is a symbol of  mental release as she blows away the feathers, some of the feathers also have a look of leaves too because of the colour and shape. The leaves alike the shades in autumn with their colour is changing from a rich green which can be representational of time.

Her eyes are not quite hollow alike the other paintings as they have shading on the iris in the eyes and the pupils have a white haze clouding over blending into the iris as though the eyes are being en-lighted by  releasing the feathers. This enlightened look within her eyes is her visually seeing herself regaining herself as a person again as she releases feathers of freedom from her mouth.

My thoughts on this painting

The image of the woman has unintentionally been painted more full and I had to re work the woman's top and neck by wiping away the paint and only adding an outline and drips to it creating a suggestion of where clothing would be, this is because when looking at the image when finishing painting it I realised that it just looked like another portrait of a person and it didn't have the transparent effect that I had created with my previous paintings. I have realised that the power of suggestion can be more powerful than creating a fully painted image, it allows the viewers imagination to take place.

This painting is currently unfinished
